Tom Fleck took over as coach in 1969. In 1971 the team won another Mid-Atlantic Conference championship and reached a national ranking as high as 14th in the country. Fleck, who left as coach in 1977, would later become the president of the NSCAA, the National Soccer Coaches Association of American. In addition, in 2005 Fleck was awarded the Honor Award, the highest award given by the NSCAA.
