The old College Theater served south Bethlehem from West Fourth Street for many years. Its location was at the northern end of the neighborhood at 104-106 West Fourth Street. It was between Vine and Martel and today, the Goosey Gander and the Brodhead House occupy the area. As a child I recall Knight's Ice Creme Store at the corner of Vine. After that, I believe it was the theater, then "Giant" Cleaners and Dyers and the College Barber Shop. Also in the same area were Petrakis grocery, Hoffner's Jewelry and Doctor Stoumen. At the corner of Vine and 4th was Gasdaska Men's Wear. In addition to the College Theater, there was a College Luncheonette in the previous block.
My Aunt Theresa worked the ticket window at the College Theater in the late forties, early fifties. The College was one of many theaters serving the southside in those days. All are gone since the seventies. The Globe, the Palace and the Lehigh (aka "Bughouse") all served Bethlehem.
